2010 BET Awards

// June 30th, 2010 // No Comments » // Famous Folks, My Thoughts, What You Should Be Watching

The 2010 BET Awards kicked off last night and for once I can say that BET did a pretty good job. Although last years show was pretty last minute and thrown together because of the sudden death of Michael Jackson, they definitely stepped it up this year. The show, hosted by Queen Latifah, consisted of many surprise guests and comebacks. Prince was honored with a lifetime achievement award and tribute, that really didn’t do it for me personally, but got really good reviews on both twitter and facebook.

Everyone was surprised with the awesome dance tribute to Michael Jackson by Chris Brown. He danced his ass off before getting very emotional and being unable to finish the tribute by singing Michael’’s “Man In the Mirror”.

Queen Latifah had many costume changes to portray some of her most memorable movie and play roles like Cleo from “Set It Off’ and her characters from both “Hairspray” and “Chicago”. All in all she did an awesome job. I’m sure you watched but in case you didn’t peep some of the best performances of the night below:

Static Style: Lacefront wigs

This edition of Static Style is devoted to lace front wigs. Ladies, I am in no way against you wearing them for convenience and even medical reasons but sometimes you just don’t get it. Also, just because you have a wig doesn’t mean you have to wear it all day and sleep in it and especially stop taking care of your real hair. Celebrities have been victims of bad lace fronts too. They are in no way off the hook.

beyoncelacefront

#1 Do not put your lace front on with weave, eyelash, or regular bonding glue. It is special glue you use just for lace fronts. Invest in some or please pay a professional to do it.

beyonce lacefronts2

#2 The actual lace on the wig should not show. (I’m only using Beyonce as an example because most of the people who wear them are striving for a Beyonce type look, right? )

maryjbligelacefronts

#3 It should not look as though you have a lining when you put one on. That’s just not cute. At all.

brandylacefront

#4 The wig should be about where your natural hairline is and PLEASE don’t go over board with the baby hair.

Really I could care less if you spend $100 or $1000 on your wig. If it isn’t cute it just isn’t cute. Now you guys might be wondering “well who the hell is this girl to say anything” well I am a licensed cosmetologist when I’m not here working with my StaciStatic.com family. If you would like some help with an issue you may be having hit us up and our staff at StaciStatic.com will gladly give you a couple of pointers.

You also have to make sure that you are regularly shampooing and conditioning your real hair under the wig. Trims and relaxers, if you wear one, should also be kept up to date on a 6-8 week basis. Good luck ladies! :)

Is 4/20 Good or Bad??

420

Most are celebrating April 20, 2010 different ways all over the world. To some it’s just a regular day but to most it has a totally different meaning. Some celebrate Canibus Culture which is a term originated by California police for “marijuana smoking in progress” and a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue.

But other people say they refuse to celebrate this day for it is also the birthday of an Austrian-born German politician and the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, commonly known as the Nazi Party, Aldof Hitler and also the 11th anniversary of the shootings at Columbine high school.

Now I won’t knock anybody and their beliefs or reasoning for celebrating this day but what about Luther?? YES Luther Vandross! Today is his birthday and instead of celebrating with the weed smokers and crazy people I’d rather just sit back and enjoy some tunes from the late great Luther Vandross. So if you’re with me sing along:

This is the video for Drake’s latest single titled “Over”.  Although the video was very nice I think I got my hopes a little too high for it but, it was definitely better than “Best You Ever Had”. Keep up the good work Drake!! :)

Static Shock: Cheaters Edition

tikibarber

First it was Tiger Woods, then Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James (I hope that’s a nickname), now we have 2 more celebrity men that have been caught cheating. Our 2 latest victims of the cheat wave are former NFL running back Tiki Barber, and “The Jamie Foxx Show”actress Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon’s husband Mike Nilon. Both of these stories are so messy it’s ridiculous. Tiki Barber who has been married to his wife for 11 years, yes I said 11, was foolish enough to leave his 8 month pregnant wife for a 23 year old NBC intern. Did this fool not see “Tyler Perry’s: Why Did I Get Married”. This is the Richard T. Jones and Jill Scott situation played out in real life. Remember the 80%-20% rule??

Now I am trying my best not to judge Mr. Barber because with these “celebrities” you never really know what the truth is. For all we know she could have been beating him (you never know, she IS Asian) and he got tired and left. But my whole thing is this, if things were that bad that you wanted to leave and you guys have been together for 11 years, why couldn’t you wait that last month for her to have the baby??? *confused face* Moving right along …..

Kiely Defends “Spectacular”

keilywilliams

Keily Williams recently did an interview trying her best to defend that terrible video of hers “Spectacular”. Here’s what she had to say:

“I am an actor and performer. I have been so since my first role in a television pilot at five years old. I played a character when I was a Cheetah Girl. I am playing a character in the music video for the song Spectacular, as I did in the Cheetah Girl movies. Young women across the country get intoxicated and have unprotected sex. That’s a fact. I recorded the song to bring attention to this frighteningly prevalent activity. It is absurd to infer or suggest that I am condoning this behavior.

Are Lady Gaga and Beyonce advocating murder with the Telephone video? Of, course not. Was Rihanna encouraging suicide with Russian Roulette? No. Was Madonna suggesting that young unmarried girls get pregnant with Papa Dont Preach? I dont think so. Is Academy Award winner Monique a proponent of incest because of her portrayal of Mary in the movie Precious. Clearly, the answer is no.

I wrote Spectacular and made the video to bring attention to a serious womens health and safety issue. Please dont shoot the messenger.”

#GirlBye!! I’m not trying to hear it. Don’t get me wrong, I understand where she is coming from but, people see what Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Madonna do as art (Rihanna I’m not so sure about). It wasn’t a piece of art any where in her video in my opinion. I think this was a failed attempt at trying to step out of that Disney Channel shadow and do something to get people talking about her. I guess you can say it was a success. *shrugs*

Where do I even begin…. So Keily Williams, you went from being the 3LW /Cheetah Girls star that everyone loves to p-poppin on a handstand in this video, which is absolutely horrible by the way. How dare you even put something out like this knowing that OUR children look up to you. Check the lyrics:

I hope he used a rubber or Imma be in trouble.  Promise I don’t remember, except for rolling over
“I think he pulled out a track when he was blowing my back out”  and  “What he did to me last night felt so good i must have been on drugs”

REALLY??? Girl you need to go take a seat. Call me a hater if you will but i know you guys didnt sit through this entire video and not laugh, get upset, or either cut this mess off. Im sure she still has a little Cheetah Girl money, why is she out here doin hoe sh*t!? Im so confused right now?

Monica Talks About Her Breakup

// March 23rd, 2010 // 2 Comments » // Famous Folks, My Thoughts, STL Scene

Last week I broke the story that singer/songwriter Monica took to her twitter page to address the rumors of her and her baby daddy Rocko splitting up. Right after Monica visited us here in St. Louis and was all smiles, dancing, and kicking it in the club. I was happy to see that she wasn’t letting this breakup get the best of her.

monica

After that Monica decided she would sit down with Vibe.com to go a little more in depth on their 10 year on again off again relationship and what exactly caused the breakup:

“I chose Twitter as a forum to say what I felt at that time because there was no other way for me to say it once,” Monica told VIBE. “Had I been on radio, had I been interviewed, it would’ve been over and over again. That was just a quick way to say, ‘I know what’s taking place on the Web sites. I want you to know that I’m okay.’ But it really is a private matter. You just lose the privacy once you become an artist. So I’m not upset about it in any way.”

Prior to the announcement, rumors floated that Rocko had been cheating on the singer, 29, who said she was aware of all the hearsay and felt confused with what was happening.

“It was a situation I didn’t ask to be in, so to speak. Once something is put up on a Web site and things about your personal life are spread all around, it’s unfortunate,” said Monica. “I don’t even know specifically who they spoke to, but I do know that I never felt so… I guess the word would be confused more than anything else. If you go to sleep and you wake up and you see something for the first time, it’s a little scary, you know. I’m too grown now to go investigating leads. The reality is that I have to play my position as their mom and do what it is that’s best for me.”
