Local Facebook Groups To Save NWP

A local St. Louisan by the name of Steve Erdelen, organized a group on face book titled “I hung out at the fountain at Northwest Plaza as a teenager” in hopes of stopping NWP from closing its doors for good.
“‘That’s where all the flower children hung out and it was the place to shop in St. Louis”
Unfortunately the good times of Northwest Plaza didn’t last forever. Shoppers stopped coming and stores started closing leaving the mall almost deserted. In less than a month almost 750 people have joined the group and organized a walk at the mall this past Saturday to sway St. Ann officials from the decision they’ve made.St. Ann Mayor Gary Guittar spoke out and said:
“We appreciate this very much because we need support for the mall. We need to get the mall redeveloped. We already have 3 redevelopers we’re talking to to do work on the mall.”
I personally think they should let the idea go. NWP used to have over 200 hundred stores and is now down to only a few not to mention that is has been in forclosure for over a year. I think if they dont do something with it soon then they need to let it go because im sure its costing St. Ann a lot of much needed money to keep it open.

Macy’s, one of the 2 stores that is keeping the doors open, is planning to close later this year.

There is so much more history than many people know. Once upon a time NWP was an open air mall. For those who don’t know what I mean, it was an outdoor mall. It was the largest mall in the state of MO at the time that developers decided to enclose the mall to make shopping more comfortable for patrons during the winter months as well as being able to compete with other malls. Filled with businesses, NWP brought a large percentage of St. Ann’s revenue in taxes. It would be great if some developer could save this mall but something tells me that NWP is nearing the end of it’s run.
